This January transfer market proves to be a time of significant rumour and possible big-money deals. Several high-profile footballers find themselves linked with moves away from their current teams. We examine a selection of the top names who might be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's failure to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the player in contention, it appears an important transfer is close. This 25-year-old has a contract featuring a substantial release clause active for a brief window at the start of the month. Recent reports suggest Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his signature. Former suitors such as Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have turned their attention to alternative options, leaving teams such as Liverpool or Manchester United to make a last-minute move.

M. Guéhi

The England centre-back has continued to excel for Palace this season a previous transfer to Anfield collapsing. As his deal set to expire in the summer, January is the club's last chance to secure a fee for their skipper. A host of top clubs, such as City and multiple continental powerhouses like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly be interested. However, a winter departure is considered unlikely, especially given the manager's dependence on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

The Welsh forward has found first-team opportunities limited at Tottenham this term. Although being the club's leading goalscorer last season, he has started just a small number of Premier League matches. It is understood the London outfit is open to a sale for the correct valuation, thought to be in the around £40 million. Bournemouth are currently leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an interest.

R. Neves

The Portuguese midfielder could be set for a comeback to the Premier League following a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Now only twenty-eight, and with his contract ending in the summer of 2026, he is a possible opportunity. Clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with the former Wolves man. Additionally, there have been suggestions from Spain that he is prepared to take a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

This experienced German shot-stopper is now as the third option at Barcelona under the coach Flick. Having fallen out of favour and had an operation, a January exit looks highly probable. Villa were once linked as a possible suitor, but that move currently seems unlikely. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly showing interest in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This prolific English centre-forward has kept scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League might boost his fading hopes of being in the England World Cup. But, arranging a transfer poses significant hurdles. His current club do not wish to part with him, and his reported huge salary render any move complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as interested parties.

Despite excelling and being named the best player award at the U21 Euros last summer, this talented midfielder has found it tough for game time during his loan spell at Aston Villa. The manager has confirmed the loan move won't be made permanent. Because of specific rules regarding playing for multiple teams in a campaign, a return to Liverpool prior to next summer seems to be the sole viable outcome.

K. Yildiz

The exciting Turkey attacker is in fine form for Juventus this term. As his existing contract running down, many Premier League sides – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are keeping tabs on the situation. The Turin club are desperate to tie down the youngster to a lengthy contract but face a battle to keep one of the continent's brightest prospects.

K. Smit

This highly-touted Dutch teenage midfielder has drawn comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has become a regular in the AZ side. This 19-year-old is heavily tipped to complete a big-money move in January. Newcastle United reportedly are frontrunners, but could face strong rivalry from the Spanish champions for a deal priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
